When he was starring in the show, he wasn’t really acting, but rather playing himself. It was almost like the character he played was writing his own story.
This is a rare thing in show business. Most actors are good at playing themselves, but are terrible at subverting their own personalities.
I do think Nakano-san was able to subvert the character he played, and come across as a genuine person. And I can see why! He’s an amazing actor.
But there were times when I couldn’t help feeling that the character was more important to him than he was to himself. I felt that he was living for his characters, but failing to live for himself.
At some point, he probably realized something important about himself, and decided to stop pursuing his character at all costs. But by then it was too late.
He was too good of an actor to give up on the character so easily. But the cost of that devotion was that he lost himself in his characters.
