When he awoke, Araya found himself tied up in the back of a truck. He was being taken somewhere to be killed, but he was rescued before it came to that. After being rescued, Araya found himself being taken somewhere by a man named Tatsugami. Tatsugami took him under his wing, and showed him what the world was like.
Tatsugami taught Araya that pirates were different from other people, and that they did not need to be afraid of the world.
