Duke Preminger personality type is ISTJ, and that preminger was very much like that. I'd just think about the things that affect us in life. I was very strict on films that I made. I was determined to make them the best they could be. I didn't want any part of the process to be a mistake or a waste of time. I don't think it's quite true that there's no room for error. For example, in some films, you have to make a lot of mistakes in order to get to the right place where you know exactly where you're going. But in some films, it's not just about making mistakes. It's like recognizing an opportunity and taking advantage of it.
How did you arrive at the mistaken idea that the U.S. was going to drop the atomic bomb on Japan? And how did you then proceed to convince the President?
I'm not sure how I arrived at it. I probably read some article or saw some news report that indicated that it was going to be dropped on Japan, and I thought, That's got to be wrong, because, you know, we have to use these things in order to win the war.
