Koyori Akutagawa was also the first person in Japan to be publicly recognized as a survivor of child sexual abuse. In 1984, he was sexually abused by his father, who was a priest at the time. He stopped attending school for a year after being abused, and continued to suffer from mental health issues for the rest of his life.
Koyori Akutagawa died in 2004 at the age of 53.

Umezu wrote the book after he discovered that he had sexual relations with a 12-year-old boy while he was working as a teacher. He wrote the book to share his pain with other abused children.
