“My task was to take a character who was strong and powerful, but also very human and vulnerable, and make him a symbol of hope,” Poleschuk said.
In his vision, the new Superman would have to be a father as well as a superhero. “The fatherhood of Superman was always there,” he said. “When you see him falling on his knees, you know it’s because he’s concerned about the safety of his baby. But I wanted to go deeper: I wanted to make him a role model who inspires fathers to become better fathers.”
He also wanted to create a character who symbolizes the idea that “humanity is more important than any other idea or ideology.”
“The whole idea is to say ‘You must be good, but there is no better way to be good than to be yourself,'” Poleschuk said.
