The name Mara Jade appears on some of the earliest screenplays, and it was used on some of the earliest TV and radio shows as well. One of Lucas' early ideas for "Star Wars" was that it would be a sort of "Indiana Jones"-esque action adventure: a hero-adventurer who goes around doing good deeds.
This idea didn't make it into the final film; but the name Mara Jade became very important as a running theme of "Star Wars". ... Mara Jade was Lucas' way of applying his favorite element of the "Indiana Jones" films to his space opera, which was then still called ""Fate of the Jedi"" back when Lucas was working on his first draft.
Mara Jade Skywalker is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. She appears in the now non-canon Legends series as the wife of Luke Skywalker and mother of Ben Skywalker. She has been voiced by Heidi Shannon, Edie Mirman and Kath Soucie in various Star Wars video games.
