Brian Lackey personality type is INFP, and I would say that type is fairly common. The only thing that I would point out is that, for the most part, INFPs don't just sit there and wait for others to hand them the ball. They are the sort of people who want to be handed the ball, but are just as likely to have to have to shoulder the load of the team themselves. This means that they are also good at taking that burden off of their teammates. This can be useful in a very pragmatic way, as they will often be more willing to put their own feelings aside to help their team win.
I'm not sure how fitted Lackey is on this scale, but it seems fairly likely he's an INFP. If he was, he would be one of the most well-rounded pitchers in the game.
The downside to Lackey is that he is somewhat of a loner personality type, which can cause problems when it comes to dealing with other people. He doesn't seem to be afraid of that kind of thing, though, and has been working hard to improve his social skills over the years.
