The first thing he felt was the knife. It was sharp, it was cold, and it was in his back. The second thing he felt was the adrenaline spike as the knife pricked his skin. He knew that someone had been behind him, but he didn't know who. He wasn't even sure if he had been caught by an assassin or if someone had just been trying to steal from him. Either way, he was glad that the knife hadn't gone in any deeper than it had.
