Brody’s ESTJ personality type is showcased throughout his career, which began at the age of 5, when he started playing hockey for the Toronto Marlboros. The Marlboros won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association minor-hockey championship in 2005.
Brody played on the Marlboros team until 2007, when he moved on to play for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.
He played for the Petes until he was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round (195th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Brody was ineligible for NHL play until he turned 18 years old.
He was drafted by the Sabres because of his strong play for the Peterborough Petes, but was never able to make an impact with the Buffalo Sabres. He was traded to Carolina before the start of the 2011–12 season.
Since then, Brody has had a very successful career with the Hurricanes.
