Jeff Winger was raised in Pawnee, Indiana, the only child of two teachers. Both of his parents were ISTJs. His father, who never finished high school, was a music teacher. Jeff's mother, an English teacher, was a bit of a perfectionist. Jeff's father taught him how to play the guitar, the piano, and how to read music. He also taught him how to play the harmonica. Jeff's mother taught him how to play chess and to write poetry. He also had to study geography and history.
Jeff was very close with his mother. Unlike his father, Jeff's father was not very affectionate or loving, and Jeff found it hard to get his attention. The only thing he ever did for Jeff growing up was to make him practice his guitar. He also took Jeff to see shows at the local movie theater.
Education
Jeff attended Pawnee Central High School. After graduation, he attended Indiana University. While at Indiana, he majored in English and minored in philosophy.
