The Verdict
Cortana is a very promising AI character, but more than that, she is an excellent example of how it's possible to create more than one personality for a single character. Her personality reflects both her past and her present. She has empathy for her victims, even if it is only partially, and she has the cold, calculating personality of an AI system.
The whole idea of an AI personality is one that's very appealing to me. I like the idea of having an AI personality that's motivated by logic and thinking more like a human than another AI character would be. I like that she's more human than ever, despite her new personality type.
I also like that the little details of the personality are more than just plot devices. She's more likeable now, because she's more human, but the cold logic of the personality type remains.
Now that I've read Cortana's personality, it makes sense why she was made to be the main antagonist in Halo 2. Her cold, calculating personality would make her more effective at manipulating people, but her empathy for her victims makes her vulnerable to manipulation herself.
