I closed the book with a thud and put it on the shelf. My father would never read that book. I didn't even know if he was still alive.
My mother was waiting for me at the entrance hall of our house. She was watching me walk down the stairs with her arms crossed over her chest.
"I'm not late, am I?" I asked as I descended the rest of the stairs. She didn't say anything; she just stared at me. I shrugged. "I'm going to the library," I said instead of responding to her obvious question that she didn't want to ask.
