Marianne was born on June 17, 1968, in the Netherlands. She grew up in a very small town called Zwolle. She has no siblings and her parents are both dead. Because of her parents' strictness and severity, she has a hard time communicating with them. She attended a Catholic school and received her primary education at the "Zoete" convent school. She was an altar girl during all of her school life. In 1988, she graduated from the Johan de Witt Gymnasium. Marianne loves singing and playing music in her free time.
As a teenager, she had no boyfriends because she felt too shy to talk to them. She had had one relationship with a boy in her school but he did not like her and she could not get his attention [1].
In 1989, she was employed by the Netherlands Embassy in Washington D.C. It was her first job as an official diplomat. She was posted in South Africa from 1991 to 1993 as the Second Secretary in the Netherlands Embassy.
