But, as a parent, and a mom to a young boy, I’m always looking for ways to be a better mom. I’m reading more books about parenting, and learning all about different parenting styles to best fit my family’s needs.
One of the books I’ve been reading is the book Parenting from the Inside Out: How to Raise Your Spirited Child, by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D.
The book is based on Dr. Siegel’s work with children in a UCLA hospital, and is written with children in mind. There are chapters included on “the language of emotion,” “the skills of a good parent,” “fear and the child,” “the emotional life of the child” and “the child’s first language.”
It is clear that Dr. Siegel has a great love for children and his emphasis on positive parenting is evident throughout the book. He even says that “emotional health is the foundation of psychological health.”
