Ichirō Hiiragi first appeared in The Visionary. He is one of Hana's childhood friends, and she states that he has always been the "leader" of their group. He and his friends are constantly fighting with their childhood nemesis, Sōji Ishida. In the end, they end up reconciling due to a misunderstanding. At one point, Ichirō realizes that he has been using Sōji as his "mascot" and tells him that he no longer considers him his enemy. However, after seeing Sōji's determination to become the very best in order to defeat the Visionary, Ichirō decides to recruit him as his successor.
Ichirō appears in other episodes as well. In First Love, he is seen doing a double take in front of the girl he likes (Hana) and his best friend (Sōji). He is called out on it by Hana, but doesn't seem to mind.
