Flávia was never sure why she was drawn to social work. “I like people,” she said. “I like to help people and ease their minds.” But it was her interest in social issues that led her to the school of social work. “I was a student in a classroom where there were homeless people waiting outside, so I really empathized with them. I went on to study in the human rights department. I wanted to study international law, but that was not possible, so I chose social work. The school had a good curriculum, and it was easy for me to study.”
After finishing her undergraduate degree, Flávia decided to work with the poor and the homeless in a third world country.
