If you consider the fact that there are only four canonically gay characters in the entire film– three of which came about as a result of tragedy– this type of character is more unique than we’ve ever seen.
A lot of people claim that this trait is impossible to pull off right, and that if Jar Jar Binks didn’t exist, the filmmakers would’ve had to invent him. This is true, and it’s a testament to the brilliance of the screenplay and the mind of George Lucas that they found a way to make him work. However, I think we can all agree that this is one of the best Star Wars characters ever conceived.
