In Brawl, Yoshi appears as a playable character for the first time, replacing Mr. Game & Watch. He is a playable character in all game modes. He retains his appearance from Melee, but now wears a hat and a shirt with a Yoshi motif. In the Subspace Emissary mode, Yoshi aids the player in destroying Petey Piranha's forces and later fights against Meta Knight in a Yoshi's Island stage. In the Bowser's Inside Story sub-game, Yoshi must rescue the Koopa Bros or help Bowser destroy Petey Piranha's forces within a time limit. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Yoshi has received numerous new techniques. He can now wall jump, forward and backward roll, and wall cling like in Melee. In addition, he has a new down smash and up smash, one of which can have him breathing fire.
