In a nutshell, Jung wrote about the shadow as an aspect of the self that is darker and more troubling than the self as it appears to the outside world. But, there is another side to this – the shadow also contains those elements that are so good and positive about ourselves that they represent what we wish we could be. It is not just rage and envy, but also generosity and love.
