    Bishop James Greenleaf was born on November 17, 1899, in Canada. His parents were William Greenleaf and Mary Ellen Nicholas. He received his early education at the Ontario Institute of Education and later attended Upper Canada College.

    His parents were influential in the Canadian Christian education movement and founded the first Christian school in Canada. In addition, Bishop James’s father was a lay leader of the Canadian Baptist Convention and the Canadian Methodist Church.

    Bishop James Greenleaf spent his early childhood on a farm in Ontario near Toronto. He attended a school run by the Canadian Baptist Church that was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

    After graduating from Upper Canada College, Bishop James Greenleaf enrolled at the London School of Theology. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Theology from this institution.

    Bishop James Greenleaf worked as a pastor for various churches in Ontario before being ordained as an Anglican priest in 1927. In 1939, he became an assistant bishop for the Anglican Diocese of Toronto.
