Arvin Sloane personality type is INTJ, and this describes me very well. I can be a very friendly and outgoing person, but I can also be very critical and analytical, and I'm constantly analyzing people and situations. I only put myself out there when I'm truly comfortable with someone, and that's one of many things I've learned to truly understand about myself.
I also think introverts are misunderstood in this regard. Many people think we're all aloof and standoffish, but we're actually quite nice and easy to get along with once we warm up to someone. One of my best friends is an introvert, and we get along perfectly! We like the same stuff and we like to do the same things like read and watch TV.
I realize this doesn't apply to all introverts, but it does apply to me. It's not that I don't want to get close to people, it's just that I have a hard time warming up to people quickly. It's very easy for me to become close to people once I figure them out, but it can take a while for me to get there.
I know that it doesn't help that I'm very critical of myself at times, either.
