“We couldn’t afford it,” she said. “I was working two jobs and even then we were lucky to make ends meet.”
Joanne was hoping that Athena would be able to enroll in the state’s Charter School system, but the cost would have been too much for her family.
Joanne said it was hard to imagine that “anyone would want to hurt her” and she hoped that Athena would be able to return to school soon.
