Poppy - Sit/Stay personality type is ISTJ, if your dog is still a puppy then I would not recommend changing the sit/stay command to "stay". Also if your dog is not old enough to understand the read or off command, you should start with the "sit" command before working on the "stay" command.
If your dog is young and has not been trained, use the "sit" command for training purposes only. Use the "stay" command when your dog is calm and wants to be pet.
Start with short walks, play sessions in which they are in their crate. Do not let them out of their crate in the beginning. Start with short walks in different places, in different places that will attract them. They will just go crazy when they see you, so try to bring them to different places. Keep in mind they are not leash trained so do not let them off leash in public places.
When your puppy is ready, start with the leash. Leave the crate door open when you are across the street at the park or when you are in another location where your puppy will not be able to see you when you leave. When you get back, crate your puppy and immediately put the crate door closed.
