When I was in high school, I was a member of the chess club. I was in the same grade as my best friend, and we had this wonderful shared childhood fantasy of being "shut-ins" and having our parents leave us in a room for a few days with only books as company. We pretended to be asleep and would read whenever we could. Once when we were supposed to be sleeping, we had a slumber party and read all of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. (We were also really into Harry Potter at the time.)
There are so many things to love about the Lord of the Rings series, but I was particularly fascinated with the idea of the Ring and its ability to corrupt even the most benevolent of people. One day, however, I decided to look up some information about the ring. In doing so, I discovered that there are actually two rings in the book: the One Ring and the Nine Rings. The One Ring is the ring that Gandalf gives Frodo and it is almost completely black. It's a symbol of all evil and power.
