According to the Tolkien Gateway, the Tolkien Encyclopedia, and other sources, Tauriel is closest in her character to Glorfindel, the only Elf to use the name "Tauriel". The Encyclopedia also states that "Tauriel is one of the few female characters to be mentioned by name in the book" (although she is not the only female character to be mentioned by name). Fans have speculated that Bilbo Baggins' decision to wear his ring during the Battle of the Five Armies was influenced by Tauriel's flirtatious behavior towards him. Bilbo, however, is known to have been attracted to Tauriel at one point during The Hobbit, despite the fact that she was not eligible for marriage.
