Lawrence Gordon, M.D., Ph.D., is the father of the series protagonist, Rory Williams. He is married to Susan, and they have two sons: Rory, born in 1978, and Larry (from whom his middle name is derived), born in 1981. Lawrence was Rory's maternal grandfather, but he died within two years of Rory's birth. He was initially portrayed as a kind and supportive father, though by the time of his death, he was portrayed as an absent one who never paid much attention to his children. His wife, Susan, shows him more affection than he does.
