When I’m writing these posts, I have to keep my hands busy. I can’t just sit there and stare at the computer screen. I have to work. I have to do something to keep my brain from wandering off. So I’ll go to the kitchen and cook. I’ll take a walk. I’ll journal or paint or listen to music or take care of my pets.
It’s hard for me to take care of my pets when they’re not here. They depend on me to take care of them. If I don’t feed them, take them out, or clean their cages, then they look at me with that hurt puppy look.
I used to think that my empathy was annoying. I’d feel bad for people who were rude to me, but it took me a long time to realize that my empathy was a gift. It helped me see why people acted the way they did, and it helped me understand how I could be different from others.
