My theory on character writing is that it has a lot more to do with what a person’s type is than it does with what a person’s character is. For example, a writer who is more introverted would probably have a very different view of the world from someone who is more extroverted.
I think that all of this is valid, but I have noticed that when people read historical fiction, they tend to focus more on characters than the types that the characters have. In some ways, it makes sense. When you are reading a book, you are imagining yourself in the book, and you want the characters to be like you or like someone you know. You don’t want to read about characters who are different from you, because that would be weird. If you are reading about people who are different from you, there’s a good chance that you won’t like the book because it will be too different from your own experience.
I think that this book does a really good job of balancing the two ideas. The characters are quite believable.
