Nebuchadnezzar II (604-562 BC) was the king of Babylonia (or Babylon) from 605 to 562 BC. He took over the Babylonian Empire upon the death of his father Nabonidus. After the death of Nabonidus, his son Belshazzar became king. But he was only a child and so self-appointed regent, Nabonidus's brother-in-law Marduk-a-zekhir became king instead.
Marduk-a-zekhir was an evil man, and he planned to establish a universal empire.
