Linh Pearl personality type is ISFJ, so I can understand how they would struggle with the parts of that personality type that are more extroverted. But as you said, it's a combination of the extroversion and the introversion, and it's quite easy to be aware of the introversion.
The other thing I think is important is that he has to set up some kind of structure that allows him to get out of himself and interact with others. So he may not be the best at communicating or being in a relationship, but if he isolates himself or spends too much time in his head, he'll become very depressed.
I think it's important for him to have a hobby outside of his studies. He needs some kind of company in his life. He may have some kind of Asperger's-like tendencies, but if he puts in a lot of work and gets good at something, he could become very good at it.
