As a child, I was often presented with situations which were impossible to achieve. For example, I was told that if I leaned across the street and looked in the window at a toy store, I would see a toy I wanted. This was because I’d been told that if I just stared at the store for a long time, the toy would appear to me.
My sister and I both tried this and could not see anything beyond the store window. We were puzzled and asked what we could see if we looked in the other direction. The answer was that we couldn’t see anything but the store, but we could see the reflection of the store in the glass opposite. Somehow, we had been told that we couldn’t see the toy store in the reflection.
