Carbunkle first appears in the Big Bang comic series as a member of The Justice League and as an important character in the Teen Titans comic series. Carbunkle's first appearance was in his high school yearbook picture, and he is also shown on the cover of the same yearbook. He is a recurring character on the show and appeared in the season one finale, "The End", where he was killed by Superboy-Prime. In the season two premiere, he was resurrected by the Justice League's help. In "The End", he is revealed to have been brainwashed by Dr. Light into becoming an agent of the Secret Society of Super Villains. The Society had been able to accomplish this by using a secret weakness of Kryptonian technology, which had been discovered by Superman during his fight with Superboy-Prime, and this weakness had been used to subvert his brain chemistry, turning him into an agent of the Society.
