It's hard to say what's going on with Hrathen, because he's too stubborn to admit to anyone else that he is a fake. But the irony is that he IS a fake. He's a self-conscious liar and hypocrite. The only reason he's alive is that he has the power to enslave people and make them work for him. It makes him feel more important and important than everyone else, which is why he spends so much time lying about himself. He is a coward and a fraud. And the sad thing about it is, it doesn't matter whether he's a coward or not, because if he does what he does, people will die.
It's sad that people like Hrathen are so prevalent in our world. What kind of world would it be if people who were this dishonest and cowardly could just go around lying to everyone and doing whatever they want? To me, Hrathen is not a hero or even a good person.
