Kaname Amamiya is a fictional character and the main character of the manga/anime series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. She is also the narrator of many of the series’ episodes. She is the youngest daughter of the Amamiya family, who run the Fujiwara Department Store. Amamiya’s mother, Suzune, died giving birth to her, making her the only daughter in the family. Amamiya’s father, Haruhi, is apparently an esteemed doctor, but he never seems to get around to doing any housework, which Amamiya has to take care of herself.
