    In the Dalek episodes of the 2005 series, the Daleks are shown to have a significant number of functions that are not present in the original BBC version. These include:

    They will become so concentrated upon a task that they will forget to take sustenance and will begin to suffer from hallucinations and delusions. They also appear to be able to hear and hear deeper than humans.

    They can communicate with each other over great distances and instantly across any distance, even across the surface of planets, and will use their own devices such as translator banks to do this.

    They can also see in the dark, and see in extreme light such as that from a nuclear explosion or an exploding star.

    They can sense the presence of other Daleks and other life-forms. They can also sense the presence of other life-forms, such as humans and Cybermen, but this appears to be a result of their primary senses: sight and hearing. They cannot sense other life-forms using smell.
