INFJ (XwX)
Woods of Desolation personality type is INFJ, which makes me think that the “woods” metaphor is being used to describe something that may have meaning or meaning that’s lost, or to be looked at in a way that’s not obvious at first glance.
I would definitely take the INFJ example, but I’m at a loss with the “woods” example. What do you make of it?
Keep in mind that I’m also drawing from this analysis by Jourdan McBride, who devoted an entire chapter to The Lord of the Rings, and it’s not that I disagree with her conclusions, but her analysis is necessarily very different than mine, because she is looking at the texts in light of Tolkien’s own worldview, which is quite different than mine.
I don’t want to over-analyze Tolkien’s work, because he was an avid storyteller, and he believed in the “mythic” story-telling process, so he left plenty of clues in his stories for his readers to find.
