The Treepeople: The Story of the Spottedleaf and the Dreamer
One day, while Dreamer was out gathering food, Spottedleaf saw a small bird struggling to escape the grasp of a hawk. She immediately called out to Dreamer, who ran back to save it. The hawk flew off, but Dreamer couldn’t get the bird free. Spottedleaf helped him, and together they managed to get the bird free. Once they had rescued the bird, Dreamer brought it up to Spottedleaf. “Please, take care of this bird,” he told her. “I want you to raise it.” Spottedleaf took the bird in her arms. She named the bird Sparrow, after one of her favorite things in the world.
