Tsukasa Hiiragi personality type is INFP, which is often described as "guardians of the world". The world is, of course, gender-neutral so one can be either male or female. But since the personality type is so frequently associated with the male gender, it's often described as "male guardian".
This is not to say that there can't be female Guardians.
There are male Guardians, but it's very rare. I know of only two. Both are gay. The first one I know is gay, because the creator of the character, who comes from the UK, created him that way. He was originally created for a female character. But that character was never used in the series. Eventually this character was picked up by another author who decided to make him gay. It's not like he was forced to be gay; he's just that way naturally.
The second Guardian, who is also gay, was created by the same author who created the other Guardian.
I don't know why it's so rare for male Guardians to appear. My guess is that the reason is that it's difficult to write them in a way that's believable.
It's funny though, because many (most?) people associate Guardians with religion.
