Eric personality type is INFJ, but I have heard it said that it doesn't have to be the INFJ type. All three types can be introverts, but the other two types are extroverts. I know that INFJs can be introverts, but this is not shaped by their personality type.
I just read in the Myers Briggs forum that you can be an INTJ if you are an introvert. I tend to think of INTJ as being a mix of introversion and intuition. I think part of the reason INTJ is described as "introverted intuition" is that many INTJs don't feel they have the intuition they would like to have, or they see it as a weakness. The reason that there has been so much recent interest in ENFJ and INTP is because there is a lot of self-discovery going on among those types lately.
I think the same thing can be said about INTJ. Many more INTJs now understand that introversion is not a weakness and that it is not something to be ashamed of, but an advantage. More INTJs are learning to listen to their intuition and not only trust their gut, but also trust themselves.
