"I am a very energetic, outgoing, and talkative person," he said. "I love being around people and talking to them and getting to know them. I'd like to think I'm a good listener and for the most part I try to be."
The biggest challenge for him has been keeping his cool with the other astronauts on the station.
"We're all very competitive and we want to do best of the best. That's what we were in the military, so it's just kind of the same competitiveness," he said.
"The biggest challenge is just not getting frustrated or getting upset with things that don't go your way, or things that are a little bit off or not perfect."
But he said NASA asked him to come up with a personal mantra and he came up with these words: "Be comfortable in your own skin, but be humble and appreciate the fact that you're doing a great job."
"Because when you do that, you're not expecting people to like you or be best friends with you, because you're just doing what you have to do," he said.
