Branislav Nušić was born Alkibijad Nuša (Aromanian: Alchiviadi al Nuşa, Greek: Alcibiades Nousias) in Belgrade on 20 October [O.S. 8 October] 1864. His father, George Nousias (Thessaloniki, 1822 – Pristina, 1916), was a Serbianized Aromanian merchant whose family had its roots in the village of Magarevo in Ottoman Macedonia, and his mother, Ljubica (1839 – Belgrade, 1904), was a Serb homemaker from Brčko, Bosnia, then under Austro-Hungarian rule.
