    Ernst Jünger (b. 1898–d. 1997) was a German writer and painter, and the most significant exponent of the philosophical movement Neue Sachlichkeit (“New Objectivity”).

    Jünger’s life and work were heavily influenced by the events of his youth. The deaths of his parents and sister, the First World War and the Russian Revolution were key events in his early life, and he made these experiences the subject of many of his writings.

    Jünger spent most of his life as a soldier and a painter, and he also wrote short stories and novels.

    After the death of his wife, he moved to Zermatt, Switzerland.

    By the end of his life he had returned to writing about nature and life in the mountains.

    Jünger was born in 1899 in Starnberg, Germany. His parents were Herman Jünger (1863–1929) and Clara Schumann (1867–1937). His father was a wealthy architect.

    Ernst Jünger (29 March 1895 – 17 February 1998) was a German soldier, author, and entomologist who became publicly known for his World War I memoir Storm of Steel.
