    Géza Gárdonyi was born on January 31, 1928, in Budapest. He was the only child of Miklós Gárdonyi and Erzsébet Gárdonyi née Zsukovits. His father was a poet and a professor of Hungarian literature. In his youth Géza was a member of a literary circle, where he published his first poems. In 1946 he graduated from the Faculty of Education, after which he began working as a schoolteacher. In 1952 he joined the Communist Party of Hungary. He participated in the 1956 revolution against the regime, but was detained for one year. He also participated in the revolution of 1956, but was forced to flee Hungary in 1957.

    Géza Gárdonyi, born Géza Ziegler (3 August 1863 – 30 October 1922) was a Hungarian writer and journalist. Although he wrote a range of works, he had his greatest success as a historical novelist, particularly with Eclipse of the Crescent Moon and Slave of the Huns.
