Mevlüt Altıok is the only son of the couple. His mother, Özlem Altıok, was a professor of Electrical Engineering at Uludağ University. She raised him single-handedly while Mevlüt’s father, Metin Altıok, was in the United States. He graduated from the Robert College in Istanbul with a degree in Economics.
Mevlüt Altıok’s career was cut short by an accident that took place in 2013. He was injured seriously when he fell down during a mountain climbing expedition in the province of Antalya. He broke his leg and almost lost his life. He was taken to the hospital in Gümüşhane where the doctors reported that the injury was so severe that it would take at least 6 months for him to recover. The doctors declared that they couldn’t guarantee his survival if he didn’t receive medical treatment in Turkey. Since he lived in Istanbul and his hometown was in Antalya, he was taken to the Antalya State Hospital.
