Rainer Maria Rilke personality type is INFP, which this is the first time I’ve encountered it. The first thing I thought was “wow, he’s so deep.” This is something that was not even on my radar until seeing him.
And then I read his poetry.
The book of his poetry that I am reading is all new to me. It is a collection of his letters. These are letters to his wife, who passed away in 1945, and to various friends and colleagues, many of whom are long dead. It is quite moving to see the intimate glimpses into the mind of this man, who lived such a short life, of course. His letters are beautifully written, and I will post some here as I read them. He wrote these letters during the last years of World War I, before he died at the age of 37 in 1920.
The book is called Letters to a Young Poet, and it was translated by Stephen Mitchell. I liked it a lot, and I feel a little bit better knowing that the type I think it is is really named after a famous poet.
