When she was sixteen, Claudia entered Stanford University where she met her future husband, Joseph Bruford. They were inseparable as they studied archaeology at the same time. At the end of their course they both graduated with honours, majoring in anthropology and anthropology-sociology respectively. In 1986 they were awarded their MSc in archaeology and anthropology.
