Matthew Joseph "Matt" Groening (b. April 15, 1952), the creator of The Simpsons, is an American animator, writer, producer and director. He created the series in 1987.
Matt Groening was born to George Groening and Ruth Groening on April 15, 1952. His father was a cartoonist for Life magazine and Puck magazine, where he created cartoon characters and stories. Matt's hobbies include drawing comics and cartoons and playing guitar. He also created a comic strip called Life in Hell (later changed to Life in Hell with Matt Groening) for the newspaper Washingtonian. The strip was about a family who moved from the East Coast to Springfield. It ran for two years.
