“The Riviera Personality Type” was first published by David Keirsey in his book Please Understand Me I’m Not Mad, But I’m Confused (originally titled Please Understand Me II: A Personal Guide to Personality Types).
I have also developed a personality type model based on the work of David Keirsey. This is a more detailed explanation of the model and how I arrived at it.
My assessment of the book is that it’s a good introduction to Keirsey’s ideas. However, it does not go into enough detail about each type for my taste. I would say that it is more of a guide than a proper exploration of the work of Keirsey.
The book is meant to be used as a reference guide and there is not much depth to it. It could be read in less than an hour, but the book could have done with more depth. The book is not without its flaws though – I do feel that it is missing some significant information about temperament. I think that if the book was a little bit longer it could have explored temperament in more depth.
