"There's a lot of introspective, analytical, and logical logic that goes into NASCAR," said Allen. "I don't think many people realize how much analysis goes into the decisions you make in a race car, and it's a mindset that's very different from driving a car on the street. I think it helps explain why there are so many great drivers."
In fact, Allen says he has seen a correlation between high-level racing and high-level business.
"It's almost like your six-year-old driver in the family business," he said. "They start out in the bottom of the organization, and they work their way up."
Allen made his name in sports radio, but he has moved on to television. He has become the co-host of "NASCAR Raceday" on NBC Sports Network. He is also an analyst for Speed. "I grew up in the racing business," he said. "I wanted to be involved in that."
Allen loves sports, but he has found that NASCAR "is more of a challenge."
"It's not scripted," he said.
