My personal favorite way to show this in a person is by using the “Empath” character from the anime series Grisaia no Kajitsu, which is a very well-known anime, both in Japan and abroad. This character is driven by something that I call the “feeling of emotion”, and in fact she can’t help but feel it when she sees something that makes her feel bad. There’s a scene in the third episode where she walks in on a murder taking place in a hotel room and she couldn’t help but feel bad about it, so she goes to the police to report this information.
Of course, none of these feelings are anywhere near accurate, but they have a very real effect on her, and this is what drives her to go to the police. This is not just a matter of empathy or sympathy.
